The Dreamliner Decaf is our 3rd addition to the Runway Collection, and our 1st decaf coffee.

And we’re very proud to present this single estate decaf coffee from the farm Finca La Laja owned by Hermilo Sampieri. The farm, located near the village of Huatusco in Veracruz, has been in the Sampieri family for three generations, spanning approximately 500 hectares at an elevation of 1,100 meters above sea level. The farm thrives in a tropical climate with temperatures averaging between 15-22°C, fertile soil, and 2,000 mm of annual rainfall.

It is certified for sustainable production under RFA (Rain Forest Alliance) and 4C standards, which ensures that the coffee is sourced and produced in a socially, environmentally and economically responsible way.

Look for the notes of spicy, sweet, chocolate and lemon.

Why Mountain Water Process?

We, at Runway Roasters has chosen to source coffee that are decaffeinated using the Mountain Water Process (MWP), mainly because of 3 things:

1.     The Mountain Water Process is completely chemical-free. Unlike other decaffeination methods, the Mexican Water Process uses no chemicals whatsoever, ensuring you can enjoy your coffee without the concern of ingesting any harmful substances.

2.     It maintains the flavor. The Mexican Water Process is a gentle method that preserves the natural flavor of the coffee beans, allowing you to enjoy the same rich, full taste, even in decaf.

3.     It's environmentally sustainable. This decaffeination method is eco-friendly, as the water used is recycled throughout the process, and the coffee beans are cultivated in a way that supports environmental sustainability.

How does the Mountain Water Process work?

The Mountain Water Process for our Mexican Decaf relies on water from glaciers on Mexico’s highest mountain, Pico de Orizaba. In this process the beans are immersed into this water, to extract caffeine while preserving their flavor. The water is then filtered through carbon filters to remove the remaining caffeine, while retaining the coffee’s flavour compounds, thus keeping the original coffee profile intact.

This decaffeination method is managed by DESCAMEX (Descafeinadores Mexicanos).

Benefits of our Mexican Decaf

1.     It has lower acidity compared to other decaffeinated coffees, making it gentler on the stomach.

2.     It often contains more antioxidants than regular coffee, potentially offering additional health benefits.

3.     It's an excellent choice for those sensitive to caffeine or who need to avoid it for health reasons.
